Overview

Remote Utilities® is highly configurable and secure remote desktop software for IT professionals. You can view screens remotely, send keystrokes, control the mouse pointer, transfer files and do any other operation just as if you were physically sitting in front of the remote PC.

Main Program Modules

Viewer icon

Admin module — Viewer

The Viewer is your single control center. Here you can manage your remote connections using one or several address books, start a remote session in different connection modes and run configuration tools, such as the MSI Configurator.

Host icon

Remote module — Host

The Host must be installed on each remote workstation. The remote service starts automatically and grants you unattended 24/7 access to remote workstations and servers in any location.

Other Modules

The following modules provide additional capabilities:

Agent icon

Agent

The Agent can be used instead of the Host for spontaneous access. Agent doesn't require installation and administrative privileges.

Ru Server icon

Server

The Server is self-hosted software that can be installed on your premises and act as a relay, sync and authorization server for your remote connections.

Portable viewer icon

Portable Viewer

With the portable Viewer you can access your remote machines from any computer. To use the portable Viewer, download it and copy onto a USB stick.

For power users, there's plenty to like about Remote Utilities. Several connection modes are offered beyond the full remote desktop experience. There's also a file transfer mode, remote device manager, registry viewer, remote webcam access, and a terminal mode — which is an excellent way to perform simple command line tasks from a distance.

 PCWorld

Ultimate Security

All data traffic is encrypted using industry-standard encryption algorithms — RSA-2048 for initial key exchange and AES-256 for subsequent data transfer. Learn more about security.

Active Directory Support

Browse the Active Directory tree within the program in real time. No need to set up every remote computer — access Active Directory workstations and servers with one click using Windows credentials.

Firewall Bypass

Assist a remote customer or colleague instantly through an Internet-ID connection. No network configuration is necessary — connect from anywhere with just an ID and password.

MSI Configuration

Use MSI Configurator to create a custom Hostinstaller for further deployment across your network, or customize the remote Agent module with your logo and welcome text for attended support.

Power Control

Use Power control mode to restart a remote PC in normal or safe mode, shut it down, lock it or put it to sleep, all as if you were able to physically press the Power and Reset buttons.

Mobile Client

Access computers from anywhere using the free Viewer for Android and iOS. Stay in control of your remote PCs while on the road or out of the office, or connect directly via the local network.

Remote access over LAN or VPN
Establish direct connection to a remote PC using its IP address or DNS name. You can also seamlessly deploy the program in an Active Directory network.
Remote access over the Internet
Use Internet-ID connection to bypass firewalls and NAT devices when connecting over the Internet. No complicated network configuration is necessary.
Unattended access
Deploy the Host module for 24/7 access to remote workstations and servers. The Host starts automatically as a system service.
Attended access
Provide spontaneous remote support over the Internet using the Agent module. No installation and administrative rights are required.
UAC support
User Access Control (UAC) prompts can be controlled remotely and are no longer an obstacle (using Hostinstead of Agent is required to override UAC).
RDP-over-ID
Use Remote Utilities as transport to start an RDP session over the Internet when the remote PC is not accessible directly by an IP address.
Unlimited one-to-many sessions
Multitask by connecting to multiple remote PCs at once from the same machine.
Self-hosted server
Use the self-hosted server for remote connection, address book sync and authorization.
Proxy server support
Configure Remote Utilities to connect through your company's proxy server.
Connect through Host
Use a single PC on your LAN as a gateway through which to connect to its peers on the same network.

Deploy Remote Utilities client across your network and access unattendedworkstations and servers.

Active Directory integration

Remote Utilities integrates with Active Directory in multiple ways:

  • When you install the Viewer on a computer in Active Directory, the Viewer automatically fetches and displays the AD tree. You can add more domain controllers to display in the Viewer.

  • You can use domain user credentials to authorize on a remote Host provided that you enabled Windows security authorization method in the Host settings:

Direct connection

With Remote Utilities you can connect from computer A to computer B without any web server in-between. For example, if both computers reside on the same LAN, simply specify the LAN IP address of the target computer:

Work in restricted or isolated environments

You may have a very strict security policy in your company network with Internet access either restricted or entirely blocked. Remote Utilities is an ideal solution for a LAN-only scenario due to the following reasons:

  1. When Direct connection is selected as connection method, Remote Utilities does NOT use any relay servers. You only need a relay server when you enable the Internet ID connection. In the latter case you can choose between using our company's relay servers or install a self-hosted server of your own.
  2. Remote Utilities does NOT require Internet access for product registration. Registering the program is as simple as adding a plain-text license key in the Viewer's License key storage. There are NO periodic license “checks” or web server calls.
  3. Upgrading the program is always an option, but never an obligation. We provide you with the necessary tools, program installers and documentation but we do not dictate when and if you need to upgrade.

MSI Configuration

Remote Utilities has a built-in utility called MSI Configurator. Use it to customize your Host installer file with the settings that you need the remote Host to have once it is installed. The MSI Configurator has a wizard-like interface — you start from selecting the type of output package you need and proceed through further steps to define your settings.

The most appropriate option for deployment in a LAN and Active Directory is Standard MSI. This option allows you to build an .msi installer with all the custom settings that you need. You can further deploy this MSI package in your network either through GPO or other means.

Scalability and deployment

You can push-install the program across your Active Directory computers using AD group policies. Alternatively, you can use the built-in Remote Install tool for remote installation and remote upgrade.

Set access permissions

You can create multiple users and groups with different permissions on the remote Host. For example, with Remote Utilities Security enabled, you can create usernames (accounts), passwords and specify permissions for each account.

If you choose Windows Security you can piggyback on existing Windows (or domain) users and groups — just select the user or group and set permissions for them:
